This powerful new Moon inject vitality, confidence and self-love as we approach the electrifying Uranus and Jupiter stations on August 11th. Harness this vital and creative energy as this new Moon cycle begins and re-awaken your wild heart.
“The realm of creation
is outside the scope of thought.
O foolish one,
see the opus and behold the beauty!
Look in the direction
from which the images flow.
See the brook that causes the wheel to turn."
(Rumi)
"To speak truly, few adult persons can see nature. Most persons do not see the Sun. At least they have a very superficial seeing. The Sun illuminates only the eyes of the man, but shines into the eye and heart of the child. The lover of nature is he whose inward and outward senses are still truly adjusted to each other; who has retained the spirit of infancy into the era of manhood." (Ralph Waldo Emerson)
Just imagine multiple sparkles of light, shades of impalpable gold flickering all around, brightening up the sky and awakening flowers from their night rest. Beyond neatly arranged thoughts is the wilderness of creation that swirls and swings according to its natural flow.
Such is the pull of this vital life force that, like a magnet, it moves the wheel of creation. It sounds like a beating heart, signaling the presence of life. It engages with the world with the eyes and hearts of children, whose vivid eyes sparkle with joy, infused as they are with a renewed sense of curiosity. In this world of full heartedness, nothing is "normal," instead all is exquisitely special, expansive and imbue with what the heart does best: to love.
This realm of vibrant energy, moving to the rhythm of heartbeats of love, is constellated at the upcoming New Moon in Leo, sign represented by the Lion, and ruled by the Sun. Like its position in the center of our galaxy, the Sun symbolizes what is unique and special. It is associated with the heart, children, fire, royalty, both in the world of nature according to human myth, and in the world of humans. Coming after the eclipses, this new Moon softens a bit the pressure, power struggles, and upheaval of this past month, especially as Mars, and Venus are in Leo, along with the two luminaries. It might feel as if a dose of vital energy and confidence was circulating again, after the efforts to keep up with the slow movement of the tectonic plates underneath the Earth crust of life. (Saturn-Pluto conjunction.)
Like the roar of the Lion in the distance, this new Moon emanates courage, vitality, and creativity filling the collective heart consciousness with the opportunity to let our inner child shine a bit brighter. Children's hearts beat with enthusiasm, a word that includes the Greek word “theos,” which means God. You might then wonder what does your inner Sun god inspires you to be? What awakens that child heart of yours that makes you thrive? As Rumi reminds us, this creative energy flows at its own rhythm. To let if flow, you might set aside your "to do" list for a bit, soften your body, tune into your heart and let images, desires, hunches, comes through like the breath of the God blowing energy in you.
Like children's vast reservoir of vitality, this new Moon might instill in you, your relationships, or aspects of your life, an infusion of creative potential and love. You might then reflect on how does it feel to be loved? How do you show and embrace your inner-child? How do you love and honor others beings uniqueness? To let love out and to receive it is to honor that creative spirit and inner child whose enthusiasm carries you forward.
This new Moon is suitable to reflect on these hints as they might appear in your life, sometimes in unpredictable, and striking ways. At this new Moon, Venus squares Uranus, and later Uranus will turn retrograde, while Jupiter will turn direct on August 11th. The presence of the Uranus, the planet that represents radical visions of change, shakes up the already trembling status quo. Those with planets and points between 0 and 7 of the fixed sign, (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius) might experience this most intensely. For them, the season of awakenings and revolutions has unfolded since last year. Depending on the planets involved, it might have corresponded with big or small revolutions and chaos. The days around the stations might feel exhilarating, a bit erratic, freeing and overall unpredictable as it's the nature of Uranus, God of the starry heavens and ruler of the mavericks and rebels. Those days might be suitable for trying something new, for creating an opportunity to experience that which might expand your consciousness.
The Lion is known for her courage, a word that as I wrote before, comes from the French "couer," which means heart. With many planets transiting Leo, and the trine to Jupiter in fiery Sagittarius, courage, and confidence might be constellating in different ways: courage to speak, courage to act, courage to take care of yourself or others, courage to look within and without, courage to speak for those who cannot, or even courage to entertain the idea of what might be relevant to you. For each one of you, it might a very personal experience of what showing up and shine might look like.
The sign of Leo is also connected with one of the hottest months of the year in the North Hemisphere. When the Sun is most visible, up in the sky at midday, the sunlight is often blinding and hot, drying everything up. Such an experience, associated with solar consciousness, or the perspective of the ego, is one that is primarily embraced by Western culture. It is though a limited point of view, for it values knowing and experiencing what is clear and visible, and superior to other forms of knowing. It is by observing the movement of light and darkness that we know that the vault of the infinite starry sky appears as the Sun sets.
Life continues unfolding under the stars and the Moon, representing other states of consciousness and forms of knowing that whisper in dreams, intuitions, imagination
, and rituals. Forgetting that there is a vaster web of life, and assuming that one is superior and more important than everyone else, is an attitude we call "arrogance.”
This is one of the less regal aspects of Leo, that might appear as tyrannical. However, seen through the lenses of the child, it's valuable to reflect on what might be happening when the inner child appears as wanting everything, at all times, without consideration for other beings. Cancer time and developmental psychology remind us that newborns need to be nourished and loved and are entirely dependent on adults for their survival. Relationships with caring people do shape us emotionally and physically. But as adults, we may recognize that this inner child appears as a tyrannical figure, as someone who always wants to "run the show." From this place, we may fail to consider we live in relationships with one another as well as with other beings. To think that one is the most important is to forget the vastness that exists beyond sunset.
The novelist Carson McCullers wrote so delicately and profoundly about growing up, noting that “the hearts of small children are delicate organs. A cruel beginning in this world can twist them into curious shapes. The heart of a hurt child can shrink so that forever afterward, it is hard and pitted as the seed of a peach. Or again, the heart of such a child may fester and swell until it is a misery to carry within the body, easily chafed and hurt by the most ordinary things."
Essentially, if your heart aches at this infusion of leonine energy, if it struggles to feel loved and unique, and it feels hardened like a peach seed, the time is right to sit patiently with it, as if you'll do with a child. There is an opportunity to acknowledge that place that needs attention, allowing for playfulness rather than shutting it down with judgments that sound like "should not do this…or that…too needy…too infantile..."
A peach seed is always a seed. Planted, watered, and nourished with love and care, it may slowly grow and sprout again to new life.
New Moon Ritual July 31/August 1
Before the Moon reappears just before sunset on August 1st or 2nd, and while the night is dark, you may rest, and meditate, caring if you can to have a candle or fire near you. You might honor all that has unfolded this past month, and reflect on what you might let go and release. Such a process is essential because eclipse periods often coincide with times of significant changes that slowly help us reframe our relationships, priorities, and beliefs. Perhaps you may write its essence on paper and burn it, releasing energy and heat back into the universe.
You may then honor your inner Lion, or your inner golden child, or inner Sun by visualizing and sensing into their energy, meditating on them or asking for a dream. You may also allow those places in you that feel special, and unique to speak up and share where your heart might take the lead and move you forward, taking a step towards what feels enlivening and creative. As we are, at times, filled with internalized judgments, you may allow yourself the space to honor all that comes, all that wants to be seen, and all that feels the best.
Trusting that you'll find the balance through the month to assess what is worth pursuing, you might set your intentions and let your inner Lion roaring, rekindling your relationship with the wild side within you.
